Post-occupancy Evaluation of Urban Public Space: A Case Study of Beijing Panjiayuan Antique Market,China《13th International Symposium on Architectural Interchanges in Asia》
Abstract
Urban public space is an important medium to carry people's social life and be beneficial to both physical and mental health. It provides necessary places for people's activities and interacts. A good public space can not only enhance the value of urban space, but also improve the vitality of the city. This paper selects the market as a research type of urban public spaces, selects Beijing Panjiayuan An-tique Market which can represent Beijing culture as the specific research object, and tries to establish a Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE)system of urban public spaces environment,including evaluation indicators, methods and processes. The evaluation indicators are divided into four main dimensions: physical built environment(including geographical location, transportation, public facilities, architec-ture, public art, etc. ) , ecological environment and microclimate, activities and sociality, and char-acteristic quality. The evaluation method is mainly a combination of qualitative and quantitative meth-ods, including interview, questionnaire, fixed-point observation, behavior mapping, etc. This paperaims to establish a POE system in the field of urban public spaces, expand the application scope of ex-isting POE, improve the construction quality of urban public spaces in China.
